California’s best oyster farm’s NPS termination statement

As I look out the cottage window at Martha’s Vineyard Menemshaw Pond, I wonder why the  National Park Service regime at Point Reyes National Seashore bizarrely weaponized the rules that were abused to shut down Drakes Bay Oyster Company. Up the road and all around farming goes on here with no detrimental effects, in fact adding to the charm and loveliness of the island.

In a comprehensive statement, Kevin and Nancy Lunny explain (http://oysterzone.wordpress.com/2014/07/10/07-10-2014-prl-theres-still-a-chance-thru-congress-you-must-act-now/) their feelings and announce that the farm will be closing, for now at least, at the end of the month.

Thirty skilled workers will be let go. Customers who have made their way out to the small operation at the end of an obscure gravel road along Drake’s Estero will no longer acquire hours-fresh sustainable shellfish to enjoy right out of the shell or to take home or to be served at San Francisco area eateries.

Does this make sense? Obviously not, in my opinion. [disclaimer] I have known the Lunnys for five years and the unbelievably partisan agenda they have struggled against is a case in point about abuse of power in our times. The Supreme Court denied hearing their case and on strictly legal grounds, SOTUS has a case, or at least has condoned the “case” some extremists in the NPS cooked up using falsified and scientifically inaccurate texts to rationalize their actions.

Congressional action could change this campaign’s results and the Lunnys will pursue Congressional discretionary support to keep the farm operating. Please follow the links to add your voice and your power to a sensible resolution to this issue.

Thank you and “keep on shucking!”

Review of Carlotta Gaul’s “The Wrong Enemy” Russell Imrie May 2014, Arlington, Virginia How did Osama bin Laden live safely for years within walking distance of Pakistan’s military academy in Abbottabad? That, and other questions, are what Gaul writes about drawing upon over 10 years in Afghanistan and Pakistan reporting for the New York Times. She spoke recently on her experience in South Asia and her new book, a must-read for anyone interested in Afghanistan, Pakistan, jihadists, and al Qaeda.

Afghanistan has been the battleground for empires dating back to past Alexander the Great, then Britain, the USSR, battling warlords including one-time western ally Gen. Abdurrashid Dostum (who, in the fraught national scene now may be back in play as a vice-presidential candidate!), the Western Powers/NATO, the Taliban, al Qaeda and revealed so well in this volume, Pakistan and it’s labyrinth-like Inter-Sevices Intelligence arm have made Afghanistan the prey of agendas on top of agendas. Venturing into this nation is risking to be burned by the enemy and often, by  those believed to be your friend. (continue to read more of this article select page 2 below)
